The national chess team of Turkmenistan participated in the “Vladimir Dvorkovich Memorial – Aktobe Open 2026” international chess tournament, held from 3 to 11 June in Aktobe, as part of their training camp in Kazakhstan.
The competitions were conducted under the Swiss system across 9 rounds and featured two categories: Masters and Open. The tournament brought together 210 chess players from 21 countries, including 23 Grandmasters.


Turkmen athlete Myahri Agamuradova (FIDE rating 2049) achieved outstanding success in the tournament. Scoring 6 points in the Open section, she claimed 15th place overall and finished as the top-performing female player of the competition. Thanks to this successful performance, the chess player gained 83.2 rating points, reaching a rating threshold that corresponds to the Woman FIDE Master (WFM) title. Myahri is 16 years old and a 10th-grade student at the Specialized Foreign Languages School in the city of Turkmenabat. Her chess coach is Guldzhan Ovlyakulieva. The athlete’s dynamism, determination, and positive mindset are clearly reflected in her playing style.
Other representatives of the national team also demonstrated positive rating dynamics following the tournament:
- Ogulsuray Bayrambaeva (1944) +8.2 points;
- Dzhanan Rejepova (2057) +26.8 points;
- Leyla Shokhradova (2081) +5.2 points.
In the Masters category, which was restricted to players with a FIDE rating above 2400 points, Turkmenistan was represented by a promising chess player, Amanmuhammet Khommadov (FIDE rating 2385). His opponents included leading international competitors: six Grandmasters and one International Master. Following the tournament, Amanmuhammet increased his rating by 10.6 points, moving a step closer to achieving the International Master norm.
US Grandmaster Andrew Hong (rating 2587) emerged as the winner of the Masters category, while Kazakhstani FIDE Master Alan Petukhov (rating 2308) took 1st place in the Open section.
The preparation of the Turkmenistan national team continues. Ahead for the team is one of the premier events on the global chess calendar: the 46th World Chess Olympiad, which will take place this September in Samarkand. /// Turkmenistan Chess Federation
