According to ASDAF News, DataVolt, a leading global developer of large-scale data centers and integrated infrastructure, has secured up to USD 150 million in non-recourse project financing from a consortium of international development finance institutions.
The funding will support the construction and long-term operation of its 12MW TAS-1 green data center in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which is expected to rank among the region’s largest AI-ready facilities upon completion in late 2026.
The financing group includes DEG, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the OPEC Fund for International Development, and Proparco. The 12-year facility aligns with rising regional demand for advanced digital infrastructure and directly backs the Uzbek government’s “Digital Uzbekistan – 2030 Strategy,” which targets growing the AI products and services market to USD 1.5 billion by 2030.
In addition to building cutting-edge infrastructure, the project aims to foster a robust digital ecosystem in the country. DataVolt has partnered with Shirin College to launch a two-year diploma program designed to train local professionals in data center operations and digital infrastructure. This initiative underscores Uzbekistan’s ambition to become a regional digital hub by pairing world-class facilities with investments in human capital and local talent development.
Rajit Nanda, CEO of DataVolt, stated: “This financing represents a major milestone in supporting Uzbekistan’s digital transformation and positioning the country to capitalize on the AI economy. TAS-1 goes beyond infrastructure—it serves as a platform for developing local capabilities, driving innovation, and building a digitally skilled workforce for sustained national growth. We are thankful to DEG, EBRD, OPEC Fund, and Proparco for partnering with us on this vision.”
Monika Beck, Member of DEG’s Management Board, highlighted the project’s sustainability focus: “DEG’s mandate is to promote sustainable development through private sector collaboration. DataVolt’s AI-ready data center aspires to run largely on renewable energy from Uzbekistan’s grid, advancing green digital infrastructure in line with the Digital Uzbekistan 2030 Strategy.”
Other consortium members also welcomed the deal. EBRD’s Holger Muent noted its role in expanding digital capacity in Central Asia’s most populous nation, while OPEC Fund’s Khalid Khadduri emphasized its contribution to economic diversification and private sector growth. Proparco’s Anne Gautier described it as a milestone for the institution in Uzbekistan, highlighting the project’s emphasis on digitalization, energy efficiency, and high environmental and social standards. /// nCa, 19 Jun 2026
