On 2 December 2022, Tashkent, Uzbekistan will host a high-level Central Asian Climate Dialogue ‘From global knowledge to local solutions: climate resilient institutions in Central Asia’.
The event, initiated with the support of Uzhydromet, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan and will be organized by UNDP in Uzbekistan through EU-funded ‘Climate Change and Resilience in Central Asia’ project in close cooperation with GIZ Initiative of ‘Green Central Asia’ funded by the German Agency for International Cooperation.
At their 4th Consultative Meeting, Heads of Central Asian States approved the Regional Programme ‘Green Agenda’ for Central Asia and declared their commitment to strengthening of regional cooperation on climate action, including rational use of water and energy resources and promoting regional initiatives on the UN platform to address the most urgent environmental issues in the region.
Furthermore, the international organizations take joint actions in promoting sound balance between mitigation and adaptation specified in the European Consensus on Development as a part of the EU and global policy framework for the region.
The conference is expected to build a comprehensive climate change-related dialogue among the Central Asian states and to develop long-term vision for building resilience against climate change and natural disasters by taking holistic climate actions together.
Specialists and experts from the government agencies, international organizations, academia and research institutes, representatives of private sector, civil society organizations and media representatives are invited to take part in the event.
The climate change resilience building, water-energy-food nexus, regional partnership, and knowledge management are key topics of the planned three panel sessions.
