On 6 April 2026, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan between Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea, Lee Won-jae, during which the diplomat presented copies of his credentials.
Meredov congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in fulfilling his duties in Turkmenistan.
It was noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of the Turkmen-Korean partnership, which is traditionally based on principles of long-standing friendship, trust, and mutual understanding. In this context, the key role of high-level visits and contacts was emphasized as a vital factor in developing the political dialogue between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea.
During the talks, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within international frameworks. They also noted the importance of intensifying inter-parliamentary contacts as a significant factor in advancing bilateral dialogue.
Furthermore, the sides highlighted the potential for expanding trade and economic cooperation and expressed interest in developing mutually beneficial ties between the business communities of the two countries.
Ambassador Lee requested the Turkmen side’s active support and attention for the successful hosting of the “Republic of Korea – Central Asia” Summit, which will take place for the first time in Korea this September.
In turn, Meredov stated that he would make every effort to further develop bilateral relations.
The parties also discussed prospects for cultural and humanitarian cooperation and the expansion of ties in the fields of education and sports.
