Ashgabat, 23 February 2026: Within the framework of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) regional initiative “Enhancing Urban Resilience to Disaster Risk and Climate Change in Central Asia,” funded by the Government of Japan, the first meeting of the Technical Group was held in Ashgabat on 20 February 2026.
The meeting brought together leading experts from relevant ministries and departments responsible for urban planning and development to review progress achieved during 2024–2025 and discuss priorities for the next phase of implementation. Particular attention was given to advancing the Action Plan on Disaster Risk and Climate Change within the framework of urban planning and development in Ashgabat. Participants exchanged recommendations and reaffirmed their commitment to continued constructive dialogue and coordinated action through subsequent Technical Group meetings.
About the Project
Launched in Turkmenistan in partnership with the Hyakimlik of Ashgabat and the Ministry of Construction and Architecture, the initiative is being implemented across five Central Asian countries from 2024 to 2027. The project aims to strengthen urban planning systems, integrate climate adaptation measures, and reduce disaster risks in response to growing environmental and climate-related challenges.
The project will be implemented as part of regional cooperation efforts under the framework of the Central Asia plus Japan Dialogue. ///nCa, 23 February 2026 (in cooperation with UNDP Turkmenistan)
