Russia is one of the major trading partners of Turkmenistan with $ 1.6 billion mutual trade turnover
The extensive strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan is not only the foundation for the development of multifaceted bilateral cooperation, but also one of the most important components of maintaining lasting peace and stability in the Central Asian region, Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volynkin wrote in his article on the occasion of Russia Day (12 June) in the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
“The key priorities of Russian foreign policy are the development of good-neighborly and mutually beneficial relations with all CIS countries, participation in global and regional integration processes and the maintenance of lasting peace and stability in Central Asia,” he said, expressing his Russia’s readiness for further close cooperation with all friendly countries both in bilateral and multilateral formats.
Within this paradigm, the Russian Federation attaches great importance to strengthening strategic cooperation with Turkmenistan, the envoy underlined.
He noted the advancement of bilateral cooperation between Moscow and Ashgabat in all directions.
Russia is one of the three most significant trading partners of Turkmenistan. In 2022, the trade turnover between the two countries exceeded $ 1.6 billion.
Volynkin noted the activities of such large Russian companies as Russian Railways, KAMAZ, Tatneft, and Vozrozhdenie on the local market.
“Interregional ties greatly contribute to the development of bilateral relations between Russia and Turkmenistan. St. Petersburg, the Republic of Tatarstan, as well as the Astrakhan and Chelyabinsk regions cooperate especially closely with our Turkmen brothers,” he stressed.
The ambassador praised the important role of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation and the High-level Group on Trade and Investment Support.
Cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan in the humanitarian sphere is actively developing, he noted. The project of a Joint Russian–Turkmen University, the opening of a new building for primary classes of the Joint Russian-Turkmen Secondary School named after A.S.Pushkin and a new building of the State Russian Drama Theater named after A.S. Pushkin are on the agenda.
Volynkin highly appreciated the contribution of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to fostering the atmosphere of partnership between the two countries. “In November 2022, highly respected Gurbanguly Myalikgulyevich was awarded the Russian Order of Merit for the Fatherland, symbolizing the highest recognition by our country of his outstanding achievements,” the diplomat recalled.
In conclusion of his article, Ambassador Ivan Volynkin expressed confidence that the trusting contact and the desire for mutually beneficial cooperation between President Vladimir Putin and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will give an additional impetus to the development of Turkmen-Russian relations. ///nCa, 12 June 2023
