Turkmenistan will join the pilot project of CAREC Advanced Transit system and Information Common Exchange (CATS/ICE), implemented by the Central Asian Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program.
This was announced by the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan, which is the coordinating body for the project, during an online meeting with authorized representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the CAREC program.
The parties discussed further practical steps of implementation and reviewed the draft of the Memorandum of Understanding on the CATS/ICE.
CATS and Information Common Exchange (ICE) is a harmonized electronic system for the control of movement of goods in transit through CAREC member states, compatible with the New Computerized Transit System (NCTS) of the European Union.
CATS is expected to increase the security of the supply chain; to reduce cost and time for transit operators and to help trade flows cross borders more smoothly and efficiently.
CATS is aimed at optimizing and coordinating transit documentation, creating a unified electronic messaging system, eliminating manual processing of documentation and providing a modern, risk-based and affordable guarantee mechanism.///nCa, 18 April 2023
