Ashgabat recently became the center of regional labor diplomacy as leaders and representatives of trade unions from Central Asian nations and the Republic of Azerbaijan gathered for their first-ever joint consultative forum. Organized by the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan in cooperation with the International Labour Organization (ILO) Bureau for Workers’ Activities, the event took place at the capital’s “Arçabil” hotel.
The forum underscored a shared regional commitment to modernizing labor relations, bolstering worker protections, and advancing social justice in alignment with international standards.

- Partnership with the ILO: Representatives highlighted Turkmenistan’s ongoing cooperation with the ILO, noting how international conventions are actively integrated into national frameworks through major legislative milestones such as the Labor Code, the Employment Law, and the Social Protection Code.
- Bilateral Engagements: On the sidelines of the main plenary, leadership meetings took place between the National Center of Trade Unions of Turkmenistan and delegates from the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan to map out future collaborative initiatives and mutual professional exchanges.
Advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
Participants concurred that deeper regional cooperation among labor organizations is vital for meeting broader socioeconomic development targets and ensuring sustainable, inclusive growth. By sharing best practices in legal literacy, digital tool integration, and occupational safety, the participating nations aim to harmonize their approaches toward creating dignified working conditions and robust social security nets across the region. /// nCa, 6 November 2026
