Transporting Turkmen gas to European markets via a Trans-Caspian pipeline and Türkiye’s advanced transmission network is the next logical milestone in energy partnership between Turkmenistan and Türkiye. This was the key message delivered by BOTAŞ Chief Executive Officer Abdulvahit Fidan at the 31st International Conference “Oil & Gas of Turkmenistan” (OGT 2026) in Ashgabat.
He noted that arrival of Turkmen gas in Türkiye in 2025 was an important milestone as the beginning of much wider partnership. However, the next goal is to build on this achievement and develop a long-term and lasting supply relationship.
“In June this year, the 9th meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission was held here in Ashgabat. At that meeting, both sides expressed their commitment to strengthen the cooperation in energy. As our Minister has stated, stronger regional energy links are one of the key elements of Türkiye’s energy policy. In this context, bringing Turkmen gas to Türkiye through a Trans-Caspian pipeline and then delivering it to Europe through Türkiye remains a strategic goal,” Fidan stated.
According to the head of BOTAŞ, Türkiye’s advanced natural gas infrastructure and company’s access to different markets offer important opportunities to support this goal.
“To turn these opportunities into real projects, producers, transporters and buyers need to find common ground on technical and commercial matters. Cooperation among all parties will be essential,” he stressed.
Botaş reaffirmed its readiness to support this work. “We will bring our experience in natural gas supply, transmission and trade to our cooperation with our Turkmen partners and all relevant parties. We believe that turning our shared goals into practical projects will give new momentum to energy cooperation between our countries,” Fidan said.
BOTAŞ (Boru Hatları ile Petrol Taşıma A.Ş.) is a Turkish state-owned company founded in 1974. It serves as the key operator of Türkiye’s trunk gas and oil pipelines and stands as a leading player in national and international energy markets.
BOTAŞ’s trading network spans 39 countries across six continents, connecting over 50 partner companies.
The company acts as the main architect in transforming Türkiye into a major Eurasian energy hub, ensuring route diversification and reliable gas supplies from the Caspian region and the Middle East to Europe. /// nCa, 21 October 2026
