As of 30 September 2026, the cumulative volume of natural gas trade between Turkmenistan and China reached 477 billion cubic meters. This was stated by Du Yuming, General Director, CNPC International Turkmenistan, during his address at the 31st International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — 2026” (OGT 2026).
The head of the CNPC branch emphasized that the fields of the “Bagtyyarlyk” Contract Area on the right bank of the Amu Darya River, developed under the 2007 Production Sharing Agreement, serve as the primary resource base for regular supplies via the Turkmenistan–China pipeline network.
A new milestone in the strategic partnership between the two nations was marked by the launch of Phase IV development at the supergiant Galkynysh gas field. The commencement of work was officially inaugurated on 17 April 2026 in Mary Province with the participation of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and First Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Ding Xuexiang.
CNPC reaffirmed its readiness to “continue combining its technological, engineering, and investment capabilities with the potential of Turkmen partners to implement large-scale energy projects.”
“We are convinced that the further development of cooperation should rely not only on increasing natural gas production and supply volumes, but also on introducing modern technologies, digitalizing production processes, enhancing efficiency, and developing environmentally responsible solutions,” Du Yuming emphasized. /// nCa, 21 October 2026
