Turkmenistan has commissioned a new complex of military, administrative and residential facilities for its Armed Forces, as the country continues to modernise military infrastructure and improve living conditions for service personnel and their families.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who also serves as Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, attended the opening ceremony, according to the state online publication, Golden Age.
The complex includes an administrative building, barracks, a canteen, a medical unit, an outdoor sports ground, an obstacle course for military training, a vehicle parking area and buildings for service, logistical and social purposes. The facilities are intended to support both military duties and the everyday needs of personnel.
During his visit, Berdimuhamedov inspected the administrative building and was briefed on modern military equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles available to the Armed Forces. The administrative facilities are equipped with contemporary technology and equipment, reflecting the ongoing introduction of digital systems into military administration, the report said.
The president also visited the medical unit, which has been equipped to provide healthcare services to soldiers and officers, and inspected the barracks. The accommodation includes facilities for rest and leisure, dedicated storage areas for uniforms and personal belongings, and modern heating and cooling systems. A cultural room and library are also available to personnel.
The canteen is equipped with food preparation and storage facilities designed to provide military personnel with nutritious meals. The menu includes dishes from Turkmen national cuisine.
Housing and social facilities for military families
A significant component of the new complex is housing for service personnel and their families. Two modern two-storey residential buildings have been constructed, each containing 48 apartments, providing accommodation for a total of 96 families.
The residential area also includes a shop, a children’s playground, a parking area and a dedicated building for sadaqa, a traditional charitable gathering associated with important occasions. The apartments feature modern furnishings, kitchens and heating and air-conditioning systems.
During the visit, Berdimuhamedov met serviceman N. Kovusov, who had received the keys to a new apartment, and spoke with his family about their living conditions. The president also presented gifts to the family and handed over the keys to new vehicles for the military complex.
The residential facilities form part of a broader effort to address the welfare of military personnel alongside improvements in military infrastructure and professional training.
Modernisation under Turkmenistan’s defence policy
The commissioning of the complex is part of Turkmenistan’s stated policy of strengthening the material and technical base of its Armed Forces in accordance with the country’s military doctrine, which the authorities describe as exclusively defensive and consistent with Turkmenistan’s status of permanent neutrality.
The government has identified the modernisation of military facilities, the introduction of contemporary equipment and technology, and improvements in service conditions as priorities of its military reform programme.
The latest project brings together operational infrastructure, training facilities, healthcare provision and family housing within a single complex. While the official report did not disclose the project’s cost, its precise location or the unit to which the facilities have been assigned, it highlighted the combined emphasis on military readiness and the social welfare of personnel.
Defence Minister Begench Gundogdiyev, who also serves as Secretary of the State Security Council, reported to the president on the readiness of the military unit for the opening ceremony.
The inauguration marks another step in Turkmenistan’s ongoing investment in military infrastructure, with the new facilities intended to improve the working, training and living conditions of soldiers and officers while supporting the country’s declared defensive posture. /// nCa, 22 October 2026
