On 4 May 2026, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Seyed Abbas Araghchi. During the call, the sides discussed bilateral relations and international issues of mutual interest, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In particular, the parties exchanged views on regional security issues. They emphasized the importance of using political and diplomatic means and methods that constitute the core of preventive diplomacy, aimed at preventing complex situations and conflicts.
The ministers also touched upon specific aspects of Caspian themes, paying special attention to the fact that the Caspian Sea is a space of peace, harmony, and good neighborliness.
At the same time, the necessity of intensifying multilateral cooperation to address environmental issues in the Caspian Sea was underlined.
The foreign ministers of Turkmenistan and Iran noted the need to develop further diplomatic dialogue between the two states and, in this regard, agreed to maintain regular contacts through their respective ministries.
