
Ashgabat, 10 September 2026 – An Interdepartmental Roundtable on “Integrating Aspects of Healthy Motherhood and Climate Resilience into the Regulatory Framework” was held at the UN Building in Ashgabat. The event was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Turkmenistan as part of the Work Plan between UNFPA and the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan for 2026.
The main objective of the meeting was to present joint recommendations on protecting maternal and reproductive health under extreme heat and climate change, as well as to coordinate interdepartmental actions to incorporate climate-oriented health protection measures into national strategies, labor legislation, and environmental programs.
The roundtable was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, the Office of the Ombudsperson, as well as UNDP in Turkmenistan.
During the program, participants discussed the impact of extreme heat on reproductive and maternal health, reviewed issues related to integrating the protection of vulnerable groups into Turkmenistan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and conducted a technical session to develop an Interdepartmental Roadmap for amending legislative and regulatory acts. ///nCa, 10 September 2026 (in cooperation with UNFPA Turkmenistan)
