On Saturday, 24 October 2026, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip to the city of Arkadag. During the trip, he reviewed design projects for facilities in the second phase of construction, the finishing materials being used, and the progress of infrastructure construction.
D. Orazov, Chairman of the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag, presented a report on the pace of construction and new design solutions. These include landscaping of the area around the “Arkadagyň ruhy metjidi” mosque, which has a capacity of 30,000 worshippers, the placement of decorative sculptures in the city park, and the installation of equestrian compositions along Akhalteke Atlary Avenue.
After reviewing the plans, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made adjustments to the projects for canopies and exterior design, stressing the need to maintain a unified architectural ensemble. When examining sketches of the horse sculptures, he pointed to the importance of drawing on national horse-breeding experience and taking a considered approach to color schemes.
A working meeting attended by D. Orazov and city mayor G. Mammedova discussed the pace of construction of residential buildings and of industrial and social facilities. The need to apply modern technologies and observe high urban planning standards was noted.
Mammedova reported on preparations for the autumn tree-planting campaign. She said that 50,000 saplings have been planted since the city opened, another 5,000 were added this spring, and a similar number is planned for autumn.
In addition, a working trip to the Netherlands is planned to study best practices in floriculture and dendrology.
Noting that the Kingdom of the Netherlands is known for its extensive experience in growing various kinds of trees and flowers, Berdimuhamedov stressed that the visit should include negotiations on purchasing tree saplings and flowers for planting in Arkadag. At the same time, he said, this experience should be studied and adopted for use in Arkadag and Ashgabat.
During the trip, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov inspected the construction of the mosque and viewed the construction of a cottage complex. The new houses are equipped with digital safety systems, including fire alarm sensors in the kitchen, as well as individually tailored layouts and lighting.
In one of the multi-story residential buildings under construction, samples of finishing materials, in particular marble, and elements of the “smart city” concept were demonstrated.
The construction site of the city bus station and the new park was also inspected. The head of the Halk Maslahaty pointed to the need to maintain environmental safety, provide quality landscaping, and install comfortable benches and canopies.
