Turkmenistan is moving to expand its domestic food production and strengthen its agricultural processing infrastructure with a new industrial facility in the country’s north. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has signed a decree authorizing the construction of a modern vegetable oil production plant in the Garashsyzlyk district of the Dashoguz province.
Under the resolution, the State Food Industry Association is authorized to sign a contract for the complete design and construction of the complex, which will also include full infrastructure integration and landscaping of the surrounding territory. The plant is designed to process up to 60,000 tons of industrial cottonseed annually, converting regional crop yields into refined edible oil and high-value agricultural byproducts.
The initiative fits into a broader national push to modernize processing capabilities and introduce waste-free technologies across the agricultural sector. First signaled during an international tender issued by the State Food Industry Association in mid-2025 and highlighted by President Berdimuhamedov at the Halk Maslahaty session this past September, the project addresses several key economic goals. By processing harvested cotton locally in Dashoguz, the complex will cut transport overhead, expand the supply of affordable domestic cooking oil, and supply regional livestock operations with essential feed byproducts like cottonseed meal. /// nCa, 23 October 2026
