Ashgabat hosted the inaugural meeting of the Turkmen-Georgian working group dedicated to deepening bilateral cooperation in education and science.
The meeting was co-chaired by Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, and Azat Atayev, Deputy Minister of Education of Turkmenistan.
The sides explored avenues for expanding the existing partnership, with a particular focus on launching joint educational and scientific initiatives, organizing youth camps, and fostering closer inter-university ties and academic exchanges.
Concluding the session, the participants outlined key agenda items for upcoming meetings and agreed on core priorities for future engagement.
This working group format provides a vital platform for both nations to exchange expertise and best practices, jointly map out new areas of collaboration, and build a strong foundation for advancing ties in education and research.
Earlier, on 1 September 2026, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia Givi Mikanadze met with Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan Batyr Mammedov in Ashgabat. During the discussion, the Georgian side put forward several key proposals, including opening a branch of a Georgian university in Turkmenistan, hosting an educational fair featuring Georgian higher education institutions, expanding study opportunities for Turkmen students in Georgia, and funding joint research projects. ///nCa, 3 September 2026
