On 28 February 2024, acting foreign minister of Afghanistan Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Batyr Amanov, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan responsible for oil and gas sector.
During meeting, the two sides held comprehensive discussions on TAPI and supply of LPG to Afghanistan, according to MFA Afghanistan.
Muttaqi said that following the visit of Turkmen FM to Herat, work on the implementation of TAPI project expedited in Afghanistan.
“Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan remains firmly committed to the implementation of the TAPI project”, he stressed, expressing the hope that the first phase of the extension of pipeline to Herat province would start soon.
Herat province is a densely populated province of Afghanistan and with implementation of the TAPI project, Herat can provide a good market for Turkmenistan’s gas, he went on saying.
In turn, Amanov said that the supply of energy, especially under the TAPI project, is a core priority for the government of Turkmenistan.
The extension of TAPI pipeline to Herat province is also of special importance, he underlined.
DPM expressed hope that the work on the agreements regarding TAPI project will be completed soon so that the TAPI pipeline can be inaugurated in the territory of Afghanistan. ///nCa, 1 March 2024
