National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov (Hero-Arkadag), conducted an official working visit to the nation’s flagship “smart” city of Arkadag on Sunday to inspect ongoing second-phase infrastructure projects and oversee preparations for the upcoming nationwide autumn tree planting campaign.
The visit highlighted the state’s dual focus on integrating scientific ecological planning with rapid urban expansion and modern educational infrastructure.
Scientific Approach to Urban Forestry and Ecology
Stopping near the designated site for the autumn planting initiative, Arkadag emphasized that Turkmenistan’s National Forestry Program relies on rigorous scientific methods to select seedling varieties and prepare soil conditions.
During his inspection, the National Leader outlined the broader health, cultural, and environmental impacts of the greening campaign:
- Ozone and Climate Regulation: Mass tree planting in and around Arkadag is designed to establish a favorable local microclimate and ozone environment, taking advantage of the region’s unique interplay between mountainous terrain and desert steppes.
- Digital Monitoring and AI: Hero-Arkadag instructed officials to integrate digital systems and artificial intelligence to continuously track forestry development, monitor tree growth rates, and optimize maintenance schedules according to agricultural standards.
- Buffer Zones: Planning guidelines mandate green belts and floral gardens between industrial facilities and residential neighborhoods to optimize air quality for urban residents.
Arkadag noted that the national planting initiative coincides with the upcoming Harvest Festival, pointing to traditional proverbs such as “Bagym bar, barym bar” (“If I have a garden, I have everything”) to reinforce the cultural significance of environmental stewardship.
Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers T. Atakhalliyev expressed gratitude for the strategic guidance and confirmed that inter-agency coordination is underway to execute the seasonal goals.
Focus on Education and Youth Engagement
As part of the tour, Hero-Arkadag inspected construction progress at a new specialized foreign language school and kindergarten complex.
To foster environmental responsibility among youth, specialized plots of land adjacent to the educational facilities will be allocated to the country’s agricultural complex. Specialists and research institutes will work alongside students to cultivate shade trees and develop park space.
“Clean air and a favorable environment have a direct positive impact on the development of children’s mental abilities,” Arkadag stated, noting that internal park walkways are being incorporated into the school grounds to facilitate outdoor recreation.
Second-Phase Construction and Infrastructure Upgrades
Following the site visits, Hero-Arkadag convened a high-level working meeting with key municipal and construction officials to review progress on Arkadag’s second phase of expansion and upcoming civic events.
Chairman of the State Committee for the Construction of the City of Arkadag D. Orazov reported on the status of ongoing industrial sector builds and the modernization of Akhalteke Atlary Avenue. In response, Hero-Arkadag directed that construction schedules for Phase II residential and industrial facilities be accelerated to meet strict deadlines without sacrificing quality. He emphasized that the redesign of Akhalteke Atlary Avenue must strictly align with high international standards, while comprehensive landscaping must be applied to all surrounding grounds.
Mayor of Arkadag G. Mammedova delivered updates regarding public sanitation standards, preparations for the civic tree planting campaign, and the city’s representation at the national Harvest Festival. Hero-Arkadag instructed the Mayor to maintain rigorous cleanliness across all city districts to safeguard public health and cultivate civic pride. He also called for full public mobilization for the autumn planting drive and ensured Arkadag would deliver a prominent contribution to the nation’s harvest celebrations.
Concluding the meeting, Hero-Arkadag reaffirmed that clean, harmoniously developed urban environments are central to public well-being before wishing the leadership team success in meeting their upcoming milestones. /// nCa, 2 November 2026
