On 11 September 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Japan’s State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Kenji Yamada, TDH reports.
During the talks, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and Japan. Kenji Yamada conveyed greetings to the Head of State and the National Leader of Turkmenistan from Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, emphasizing the importance of President Berdimuhamedov’s visits to Japan, including his participation in the first “Central Asia – Japan” Dialogue Summit and the World Expo 2025 in Osaka.
In response, President Berdimuhamedov extended his best wishes to the Japanese leadership and expressed confidence that the meetings scheduled during Kenji Yamada’s current visit would make a significant contribution to the development of Turkmen-Japanese economic cooperation.
Speaking on the political and diplomatic dimension of cooperation, the President noted that reciprocal high-level visits in recent years have elevated bilateral relations to a qualitatively new stage. These ties are successfully advancing not only on a bilateral basis but also within multilateral frameworks, particularly through the “Central Asia + Japan” dialogue.
The trade and economic sphere was highlighted as a key component of Turkmen-Japanese interaction. Positive experience has been gained in implementing projects in the gas-chemical, transport, and agro-industrial sectors with the participation of Japanese companies.
President Berdimuhamedov underlined the opportunities for expanding mutually beneficial partnership and expressed Turkmenistan’s interest in further strengthening cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, and industry.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and State Minister Kenji Yamada expressed confidence that the traditional friendly Turkmen-Japanese relations would continue to develop in the interests of both nations. ///nCa, 12 September 2026
