On 8 September 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted the signing of the Protocol on Coordinating Issues of Preparation for the Meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which will take place on 7 and 9 October 2026 in the Awaza National Tourist Zone.
The document aims to ensure the alignment of organizational and substantive aspects of the upcoming meetings held within the framework of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan reported.
On 7 September 2026, a meeting took place in Awaza between Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Serdar Muhammetdurdyev and Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Denis Trefilov.
Special attention was paid to the preparations for the upcoming events held under Turkmenistan’s CIS chairmanship in 2026. The parties discussed organizational details and cooperation matters in preparing for these high-level events.
