Turkmenistan and the Netherlands are considering promising vectors of cooperation. Opportunities for a more active involvement of Dutch businesses in implementing projects in Turkmenistan were reviewed during a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Advisor to the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on Foreign Affairs and Defense Christoffer Jonker. The meeting took place in The Hague on 3 September 2026, according to the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan.
The parties noted prospects for interaction in shipbuilding, maritime infrastructure, healthcare, innovative technologies, and methane emissions reduction.
According to the Ministry, the Turkmen side expressed readiness to organize visits of executives from leading Dutch companies to Turkmenistan to conduct meetings with relevant government agencies and business circles of the country.
Additionally, the sides emphasized the expediency of intensifying political contacts and expanding dialogue both bilaterally and within the Turkmenistan–European Union cooperation format.
The parties also exchanged views on current international and regional developments. The Turkmen delegation outlined its approaches stemming from the country’s status of permanent neutrality, highlighting the special importance of preventive diplomacy, political dialogue, and peaceful means in resolving complex international situations.
Significant attention was paid to cultural and humanitarian bilateral ties. In this context, the hosting of the World Akhalteke Horse Beauty Contest and International Equestrian Competitions in the Limburg province was noted.
The Turkmen side expressed gratitude for the conditions created to hold this large-scale international event, emphasizing that the mutual interest in horse breeding traditions helps further strengthen cultural and public ties between Turkmenistan and the Netherlands. /// nCa, 5 September 2026
