Interparliamentary cooperation, demographic security, and mutual participation in international events became the key topics of the meeting between the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, and the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Natalya Kochanova. The meeting took place on 21 May on the sidelines of the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly of CIS Member Nations in St. Petersburg.
The sides noted that thanks to the efforts of the heads of the two states, Turkmen-Belarusian interstate cooperation is successfully developing in both bilateral and multilateral formats, as well as within the framework of authoritative international organizations.
Gulmanova emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to the development and strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation with the nations of the world, including the Republic of Belarus, based on the principles of humanism, peacefulness, equality, and trust.
During the meeting, mutual support was expressed for further exchange of experience in lawmaking activities, intensifying the work of interparliamentary friendship groups, providing mutual support for initiatives on international parliamentary platforms, and establishing ties between profile committees.
Special attention was paid to expanding cooperation between young parliamentarians and women MPs, the participation of representatives of both sides in joint events, as well as organizing delegation visits and holding meetings, including via videoconferencing.
Kochanova touched upon the issues of demographic security, noting that family values and health are key to every country and of concern to all states. In this regard, the Head of the Upper House of the Belarusian Parliament invited the Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan to participate in the international forum on demographics “A Conversation about What Matters: A Happy Family is a Strong State,” which will be held in Belarus in early October.
In turn, the Chairperson of the Mejlis invited Natalya Kochanova to take part in international and parliamentary events to be held in the “Avaza” National Tourist Zone in October. These forums, aimed at sharing positive experiences and discussing upcoming tasks in the field of ensuring sustainable development, will be organized as part of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship of the CIS, as well as ahead of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and Azerbaijan. ///nCa, 22 May 2026
