On 10–11 September 2026, experts from the World Customs Organization (WCO) and regional customs specialists gathered in Ashgabat to discuss the implementation of artificial intelligence and modern digital solutions in customs administration.
The two-day regional seminar, “Digital Transformation in the Customs Sphere: Data Integration, Risk Management Systems, and the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Analysis and Automation,” concluded on 11 September at the WCO Regional Training Center in Ashgabat. The event was held in a hybrid format, bringing together in-person participants and international experts via an online platform, according to the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
Participants focused on global trends in border modernization and practical frameworks for transitioning to the “Smart Customs” concept.
Speakers from the WCO Secretariat outlined advanced automation standards, while foreign specialists shared their experience in leveraging machine learning for analytical data processing and risk profiling. In particular, a representative from the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan demonstrated practical outcomes of using AI in daily customs operations.
The Turkmen side, represented by specialists from the State Customs Service, presented national experience in deploying digital systems.
The seminar program concluded with a tour for guests to observe the operations of the Observation and Analysis Center of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
Following the meetings and a round table discussion, participants outlined key directions for deepening regional cooperation, building human capacity, and launching joint initiatives in the Central Asian region. /// nCa, 12 September 2026
