Ashgabat, 10 September 2026 – On 9 and 10 September 2026, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Office in Turkmenistan, together with the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan, organized a two-day training seminar on the application of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in law enforcement and judicial practice.
Key representatives from relevant ministries and government bodies of Turkmenistan participated in the event held at the UN Building in Ashgabat. The seminar was facilitated online by UNFPA International Expert Ms. Lori Mann.
During the seminar, participants studied core aspects of CEDAW implementation, international legal non-discrimination standards, and methods to overcome gender stereotypes within the judicial system. Special emphasis was placed on preventing gender-based violence, handling evidence, introducing a survivor-centered approach, removing gender-related barriers to accessing justice, and protecting against discrimination in employment and healthcare settings.
This event was organized under the National Action Plan on Gender Equality for 2026–2030, the Roadmap for Implementing CEDAW Concluding Observations, and the Joint Work Plan between UNFPA and the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan. ///nCa, 11 September 2026 (in cooperation with UNFPA Turkmenistan)
