On Sunday, 10 May 2026, the National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, visited the Akhal-Teke Equestrian Complex of the President of Turkmenistan, which is currently undergoing large-scale modernization.
During the visit, a series of innovative technologies and engineering solutions to be integrated into the project were presented.
One of the project’s unique features is the implementation of an innovative method for constructing access roads. For the first time in the region, a ten-layer roadbed is being utilized, with materials exceeding international standards for strength and durability. The specialized road design not only guarantees longevity but also provides automated rainwater collection and drainage, representing a global best practice in the field.
The modernization also extends to the life-support systems for the stallions. Full automation is being introduced in the indoor stables, where ventilation, feeding, and watering processes will be managed by a unified digital system.
Special attention is being paid to the health of the “heavenly” horses. Leveraging the power of Artificial Intelligence, the complex is being equipped with systems for the continuous monitoring of the animals’ physical condition. All health metrics will be accumulated in real-time within a centralized digital hub, allowing veterinary specialists to adopt a preventive approach to equine care.
The arenas of the complex feature technologies aimed at the protection and comfort of the horses. The sand surface of the arenas is equipped with a sub-surface irrigation system, ensuring ideal soil density for safe movement.
Furthermore, the arena fencing is made of elastic materials to prevent injuries to the hooves and lower legs during the execution of complex maneuvers. For the racetracks, a unique blend of sand from the Turkmen steppes combined with special additives is used to promote hoof health.
After inspecting the monitors designed for installation and the specific glazing of the buildings, the National Leader of the Turkmen people shared several observations. He noted that the elements of both interior and exterior finishes, as well as the equipment placed on-site, must form a cohesive architectural ensemble.
While reviewing the spectator stands, Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the seating areas intended for high-level guests must also fully meet modern requirements, providing panoramic views of the races and comfortable seating.
The features of the outdoor arena and its capacity to host equine beauty contests were also demonstrated. Highlighting that the country systematically hosts major international equestrian events and competitions, Arkadag Berdimuhamedov pointed out the necessity of ensuring proper conditions for the observation and evaluation of the horses participating in such pageants.
Underlining the significant role these magnificent horses play in the life of the Turkmen people as the primary adornment of national holidays, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the Akhal-Teke breed is the result of the diligent labor of dedicated seis (horse trainers). While there are many associations and centers worldwide specializing in the maintenance and breeding of Akhal-Teke horses, the National Leader concluded that the Turkmen land remains the ancestral home of these purebred “winged” steeds. ///nCa, 11 May 2026 (photo credit – Milli Info)
