On 7 May 2026, Ashgabat hosted the fifth meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission on Economic Cooperation. The event was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia.
The Turkmen side was led by the Minister of Trade and Foreign Economic Relations of Turkmenistan, Nazar Agahanov, while the Georgian side was headed by the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili. Heads of sectoral ministries and departments from both countries participated in the session.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, reaffirming their mutual commitment to further deepening partnerships across a wide range of areas.
Particular attention was paid to the intensification of trade and economic ties, with transport, energy, and the oil and gas sector identified as priority vectors. The discussions also covered increasing mutual trade volumes, stimulating investment activity, and creating favorable conditions for interaction between the business communities of both nations.
The transport and logistics sector held strategic importance during the talks, specifically regarding the development of the “Caspian Sea – Black Sea” and “Lapis Lazuli” international corridors, as well as the effective utilization of the transit potential of port infrastructure.
It was noted that Georgia views Turkmenistan as an important and reliable partner in the Central Asian region. As Mariam Kvrivishvili stated, due to its strategic location, Georgia serves as a gateway connecting Europe and Asia for Turkmenistan and acts as a vital transit hub for the Central Asian region.
The Minister highlighted state investments in Georgia’s primary transport and logistics sector aimed at enhancing the country’s role within the “Middle Corridor” project.
Alongside the economic block, participants emphasized the importance of expanding humanitarian dialogue by strengthening contacts in science, education, tourism, and culture.
Following the commission’s work, the co-chairs signed a final Protocol, formalizing the agreements reached and outlining specific steps for the implementation of promising joint projects. ///nCa, 7 May 2026
