On 28–29 October 2026, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan (MoHMI), conducted a two-day technical workshop to accelerate the strengthening of midwifery and maternal healthcare services nationwide. Organized under the 2026 Annual Work Plan between UNFPA and MoHMI, the meeting focused on reviewing and finalizing the Strategic Roadmap for Midwifery Strengthening in Turkmenistan.
The workshop brought together obstetrics, gynecology, and maternal and child healthcare officials from MoHMI, faculty members from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Myrat Garryyev State Medical University of Turkmenistan, and midwifery educators from medical colleges across Ashgabat, Arkadag, and velayats.
Participants conducted situation analysis and developed a draft of the Strategic Roadmap to align national midwifery education and clinical practice with international standards. The document establishes targeted measures to standardize curricula, update clinical protocols, and build a competent, well-supported midwifery workforce capable of delivering high-quality, respectful maternal care across the country. ///nCa, 2 November 2026 (in in cooperation with UNFPA Turkmenistan)
