National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov conducted an inspection tour of Arkadag city on 29 August 2026 to review the progress of major construction and renovation projects.
Key stops on the tour included a new museum under construction near the city’s 30,000-capacity main mosque. Berdimuhamedov was briefed on the building’s architectural features, interior and exterior design elements, and surrounding landscaping plans.
The museum will feature a digital exhibition platform designed by young local tech specialists from Arkadag. Utilizing 3D animation and AI, the interactive displays will showcase Turkmenistan’s famed Akhalteke horses and traditional hand-woven carpets. Content will be available in Turkmen, Russian, and English.
As part of Arkadag’s second development phase, plans were also presented for a new kindergarten and a secondary school specializing in intensive foreign language studies. Berdimuhamedov stressed that the design and equipment for these institutions should seamlessly blend modern facilities with traditional Turkmen cultural motifs.
The delegation also visited the International Akhalteke Equestrian Complex, which is currently undergoing comprehensive modernization.
According to DPM T. Atahallyev, the project covers complete interior and exterior renovations, public space upgrades, and extensive tree planting and greening efforts.
Attention was focused particularly on the hippodrome. Berdimuhamedov noted that local Turkmen soil should be used to prepare the racetrack surface, following recommendations from equestrian experts who confirmed its suitability for racing. He also called for improved amenities and seating comfort for spectators attending races and sporting events.
Additional instructions were given to implement digital tracking systems across the facility, renovate the administrative buildings, and improve living conditions for horse breeders residing in the nearby village of Aba Annayev. The central park and racetrack will also receive advanced architectural lighting to support evening and night events.
During his visit to the indoor arena, Berdimuhamedov spent time riding his personal Akhalteke stallion, Hanbeg.
Urban transport developments were also on the agenda. The National Leader inspected road construction plans for Akhalteke Atlary Avenue, specifically the segment between the “Taýçanak” and “Polatly” monuments.
This road section will feature landscaped green spaces, park zones, and decorative horse sculptures along the route. Berdimuhamedov urged planners to keep the project on schedule without sacrificing build quality, traffic safety, or pedestrian convenience.
Designed as a flagship “smart city,” Arkadag is being built in multi-year stages to integrate residential, social, educational, and athletic infrastructure.
