On 8 December 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Kaha Imnadze.
At the beginning of the meeting, Kaha Imnadze conveyed warm greetings from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to Arkadag Berdimuhamedov. He highly praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening global peace, security and sustainable development in the region, and highlighted the country’s significant contribution to the work of UNRCCA, which was established in 2007 on the personal initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Berdimuhamedov reciprocated the greetings to the UN Secretary-General and noted that the meeting was taking place on the eve of International Day of Neutrality.
The National Leader recalled that throughout the year numerous celebratory events had been held both in Turkmenistan and abroad to mark the International Year of Peace and Trust, the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
The culmination of these events will be a major international forum to be held in Ashgabat with the participation of high-level delegations from many countries around the world. Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the forum would serve as an effective platform for discussing key issues on the global agenda, sustainable development and humanitarian cooperation.
Kaha Imnadze, in turn, described the hosting of such a large-scale forum as vivid evidence of the international community’s consistent support for Turkmenistan’s constructive initiatives aimed at universal peace and well-being.
The sides reaffirmed the strategic and long-term nature of Turkmenistan–United Nations partnership.
Arkadag emphasized that Turkmenistan is advancing a broad spectrum of initiatives aimed at maintaining peace, strengthening preventive diplomacy, ensuring energy security, developing transport and transit corridors, and safeguarding the environment — all of which have garnered wide support from the international community.
In this regard, special attention was drawn to the recent working visit of President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to New York for the landmark 80th session of the UN General Assembly. During this session, the head of state presented new proposals focused on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and further deepening Turkmenistan’s cooperation with the United Nations.
Special emphasis during the meeting was placed on the role of UNRCCA in promoting stability and fostering good‑neighbourly relations across Central Asia. Kaha Imnadze conveyed his appreciation to the leadership of Turkmenistan for its consistent and comprehensive support of the Centre’s work, expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of their fruitful cooperation.///nCa, 9 December 2025
