A Turkmenistan delegation, including representatives from the State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography, Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the International University for Humanities and Development, traveled to Canada to explore cooperation in media and education. The delegation, led by Annasahet Kakayev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography, engaged in a series of productive discussions, as reported by Neutral Turkmenistan.
The visit kicked off at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) headquarters in Toronto. CBC officials showcased the organization’s extensive network, which includes 88 radio stations and 27 TV channels focused on local news. Each year, CBC produces over 300 original TV shows with independent producers and more than 80 programs for its streaming platforms, CBC Gem and ICI TOU.TV. The delegation was also briefed on CBC’s robust digital presence, with over 450 daily news articles, 12 mobile apps covering news, sports, and entertainment, and 43 regional portals on CBC.ca and Radio-Canada.ca.
Annasahet Kakayev, in turn, outlined the work of Turkmenistan’s State Committee for Television, Radio Broadcasting, and Cinematography. He emphasized the role of academic institutions like the Journalism Department at Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Faculty of Journalism at the Institute of International Relations, and the Faculty of International Economics and Management at the International University for Humanities and Development in advancing Turkmenistan’s media landscape.
A key highlight was the delegation’s meeting with the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) in Richmond Hill. UNU-INWEH, a UN-affiliated research and education institute, focuses on global challenges related to water, the environment, and health. The discussions spotlighted the Global Media Academy, an initiative by UNU-INWEH to train journalists, media professionals, and bloggers. The institute expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Turkmen institutions on long-term water conservation programs.
The delegation also met with leaders from HEC Montréal, a top Canadian business school, alongside representatives from the Royal Military College of Canada, the University of Quebec in Outaouais (UQO), and Mount Allison University. Through virtual presentations, Turkmen universities highlighted their academic programs and research, paving the way for future academic collaboration.
Over seven days, the delegation’s meetings culminated in agreements to develop a strategic partnership plan and a 2025–2026 event calendar. These include journalism training programs for Central Asian professionals in collaboration with HEC Montréal, as well as joint academic and professional initiatives between Canadian and Turkmen universities. ///nCa, 27 August 2025
