The President of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Zhaparov, visited a landfill in Bishkek on May 11 to check on a new power plant being built. This special plant will turn household garbage into electricity and should be finished by December 2025.
City officials told President Zhaparov that this project will solve two problems at once: getting rid of waste and creating more electricity.
According to Kabar and Kazinform, the Bishkek Mayor’s Office says this will be the first plant of its kind in all of Central Asia.
When completed, the plant will:
- Process 1,000 tons of garbage every day
- Generate 30 megawatt-hours of electricity
- Eventually handle up to 3,000 tons of waste daily
During his visit, President Zhaparov stressed that the construction must finish on time, be built well, and meet all environmental safety rules. He believes this project will help Bishkek develop in a sustainable way and improve the city’s environment. /// nCa, 14 May 2025
