According to anewz, six nations—Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Türkiye, Iran, China, and Turkmenistan—have reached a significant agreement on unified rail transport tariffs, representing a strategic advancement in improving cargo flows along the China-Europe corridor through Central Asia and the Middle East.
Railway administration representatives from these countries gathered in Tehran for high-level discussions focused on strengthening transport connections between China and Europe via Central Asia and the Middle East. The talks specifically addressed the development of the China-Kazakhstan-Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Türkiye/Europe rail corridor.
A major achievement of the meeting was the approval of competitive and harmonized tariffs for rail cargo transportation along this route. The delegates also agreed on coordinated measures to increase freight volumes and enhance service efficiency, including unified delivery times and streamlined procedures.
This initiative aims to make the corridor a more cost-effective and reliable alternative for east-west trade, improving connectivity between Asia and Europe while promoting regional economic integration.
The Kazakh delegation reported that container traffic from China to Iran through Kazakhstan has already seen a 2.6-fold increase in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period last year, demonstrating the growing importance of this corridor for Eurasian trade. /// nCa, 14 May 2025
