On 18 September 2026, as part of the World Ozone Day celebrations, the “Young Naturalist” public organization held educational and awareness-raising events in Ashgabat for schoolchildren. The initiative aimed to enhance environmental literacy among the younger generation and foster a responsible attitude toward the environment.
The main focus was placed on the preservation of the ozone layer, its role in protecting life on Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation, and the importance of environmentally responsible behavior in daily life. Participants split into teams of ten, introducing their names, mottos, and captains before moving on to several interactive stages.
The first stage was “Question and Answer.” Students demonstrated their knowledge regarding the importance of the ozone layer, the causes of its depletion, ozone-depleting substances, and household appliances that may use these refrigerants. The competitive format not only tested their knowledge but also made learning about environmental issues far more engaging.
During the second stage, a practical game titled “Eco-Logistics,” participants were asked to identify everyday products and items that could negatively impact the environment and suggest greener alternatives. Students discussed their solutions and explained why their chosen options were safer for the planet.
The third stage featured the “Captains’ Contest.” Team captains were given specific environmental scenarios and had a limited time to prepare public appeals directed at residents, youth, or business representatives. Speeches were evaluated based on persuasiveness, emotional expression, and the accuracy of the environmental information provided.
Visual materials depicting ozone depletion and the impact of UV radiation were also displayed throughout the event. This interactive format successfully engaged the students in discussions about environmental challenges, demonstrating that contributing to the protection of nature can begin with simple, conscious choices by every individual.
Organizing such activities contributes to the development of eco-conscious thinking among youth, raising awareness about global environmental issues and highlighting the importance of both national and international efforts to protect the ozone layer.
