In Turkmenistan, with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for the construction of a new 546 km long highway along the Ashgabat–Dashoguz route. Additionally, a 43.6 km road section leading from Garabogaz to the state border with Kazakhstan—part of the North–South international transport corridor—was commissioned.
This was announced by Dovran Atayev, Deputy Minister of Automobile Transport of Turkmenistan, speaking at the CIET 2026 International conference in Ashgabat.
According to him, the commissioning of these new facilities has become the next stage in modernizing the country’s road infrastructure and strengthening its transit and logistics capabilities.
Of particular importance is the 43.6 km road section, which promotes the development of international transport communications along the North–South direction. Atayev also noted the significance of the Turkmenbashi – Kazakhstan border highway for expanding regional and intercontinental transport.
An important part of this route is the 354-meter road bridge across the Garabogazgol Bay, commissioned in 2025. It provides additional transport connectivity between regions and creates conditions for the development of international transport.
According to Atayev, it is fundamentally important for Turkmenistan that new highways are not viewed as isolated construction projects, but rather as elements of a unified transport system. Their efficiency is determined not only by length and technical characteristics, but also by how successfully they integrate international routes, ensure connectivity with regions, and meet the real needs of shippers, carriers, and passengers.
Speaking about further priorities of the industry, the Deputy Minister highlighted the introduction of digital design, modern engineering methods, and automated quality control of road works.
Special attention is paid to new asphalt concrete mixtures, modified bitumen binders, synthetic materials, and soil stabilization technologies, taking into account the natural and climatic conditions of Turkmenistan.
The Ministry of Automobile Transport of Turkmenistan is interested in cooperation with foreign companies, international financial institutions, design organizations, and manufacturers of modern construction materials and equipment.
According to Atayev, international cooperation and the introduction of advanced technologies are essential for improving the quality and durability of road infrastructure, traffic safety, and investment efficiency. /// nCa, 4 November 2026
