
On 2 September 2026, Turkmen-Azerbaijani consultations on consular issues were held in Ashgabat at the level of heads of the consular services of the two countries’ foreign ministries, according to the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed topical issues of bilateral consular cooperation, the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of both states, as well as interaction in the migration, legal, and law enforcement spheres.

Particular attention was paid to preventing cases of dual citizenship, the stay of Turkmen citizens studying at higher educational institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the further improvement of cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries.
The parties also reviewed prospects for the further development of cooperation and the exchange of experience between the migration services of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a Protocol of Consular Consultations, reflecting the main results of the exchange of views and the agreements reached on the further development of consular cooperation. ///nCa, 2 September 2026 [photo credit – MFA Turkmenistan]
