Ashgabat, 29 April 2026 — Today, a consultative meeting was held at the UN building in Ashgabat with the participation of the Interdepartmental Commission on Ensuring the Implementation of Turkmenistan’s International Obligations in the Field of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. The event was organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan in cooperation with the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan.
The main objective of the meeting was to monitor the progress of the Roadmap for the implementation of the Concluding Observations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Participants presented reports on the implementation of activities stipulated by the Roadmap and discussed the progress achieved in various sectors of public administration and social life. These activities are carried out within the framework of the joint 2026–2027 Work Plan on strengthening systems and mechanisms for promoting gender equality.
The consultations were attended by representatives of a wide range of ministries and government bodies, including the Mejlis, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministries of Health, Education, Finance, Internal Affairs, as well as relevant public organizations and the Bar Association. During the sessions, participants reviewed in detail further steps to implement the country’s international obligations and outlined priority areas of work to ensure the rights and opportunities of women and girls in Turkmenistan. /// nCa, 30 April 2026 (in cooperation with UNFPA Turkmenistan)
