Today, Ashgabat will host a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), chaired by Turkmenistan.
“The meeting of the Council of Heads of Government will be held here under the chairmanship of Hojamurad Geldimuradov, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkmenistan. I believe it will be successful, as a conciliatory meeting was held today ahead of this session. We have gone through all the issues. There are 12 items on the agenda of the Council of Heads of Government meeting in total. All of them have been finalized. Surprisingly, there were no objections,” Sergey Lebedev, CIS Secretary General, stated in an interview with the MIR24 TV channel.
The agenda for the narrow and extended formats will include issues of economic cooperation, as well as the outcomes of the implementation of the interstate cooperation program in the fields of geodesy, cartography, and spatial data for the period up to 2026.
Decisions are expected to be adopted on cooperation in the areas of convention and exhibition activities, digital transformation of the mining and metallurgical complex, transport, and radionavigation, as well as on the reclamation of territories affected by uranium mining industries. It is also planned to adopt a decision on awarding the status of CIS Youth Capitals for 2027 and 2028.
The night before, on 21 May, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov, Prime Minister of Belarus Aleksandr Turchin, and Head of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev arrived in Ashgabat.
Today, ahead of the CIS Council of Heads of Government meeting, bilateral meetings will be held between the leadership of Turkmenistan and the heads of the arriving delegations, alongside bilateral meetings among the heads of the delegations themselves. ///nCa, 22 May 2026
