On 21 May 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a series of important diplomatic meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Belarus. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Pavel Utyupin visited Ashgabat.
The main event of the day was the meeting between the Belarusian guest and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. On the same day, inter-ministerial consultations were held at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
High-Level Diplomatic Meeting
During the talks, Rashid Meredov and Pavel Utyupin highly praised the current state of the political and diplomatic dialogue. The head of the foreign ministry of Turkmenistan and the deputy head of the MFA of Belarus discussed in detail the opportunities for expanding partnership in key areas.
Particular attention during the meeting was paid to:
- Interaction within authoritative international platforms (primarily within the UN and the CIS).
- Promising vectors of joint work in the trade and economic sphere.
- Realization of the transit and transport potential of the two states.
Inter-MFA Consultations: Economy, Business, and Preparation for the Intergovernmental Commission
On the same day, bilateral consultations took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, while the Belarusian delegation was headed by Pavel Utyupin.
The sides discussed the possibility of further strengthening the legal framework of bilateral cooperation, reviewed the level of mutual trade, and explored opportunities for boosting economic partnership, including through the private sector.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, a key practical track of the negotiations was the preparation for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Belarusian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation.
In the political segment of the consultations, the sides noted the effectiveness of cooperation within international and regional structures, particularly the UN and the CIS. A mutual readiness was expressed to continue the practice of supporting initiatives aimed at maintaining global peace, stability, and sustainable development.
Humanitarian Vector: Science and Culture in Focus
Bilateral cultural and humanitarian cooperation was a distinct topic of discussion. The sides highlighted the traditionally fruitful character of ties in the fields of education, science, and culture.
