On 20 August 2026, Turkmen-Tajik political consultations were held in Ashgabat at the foreign minister level, co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin.
During the talks, the parties focused on further refining the mechanisms of political and diplomatic interaction, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Both sides highlighted the effectiveness of their partnership within the United Nations framework, noting that Tajikistan has co-authored more than 30 resolutions initiated by Turkmenistan.
In terms of economic and trade relations, the ministers explored opportunities to expand cooperation in energy, transport and communications, agriculture, trade, and investment activities.
It was noted that the 14th meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation and the second meeting of the Turkmen-Tajik Business Council were held in Dushanbe earlier this year, reflecting a shared drive to deepen constructive bilateral engagement.
Considerable emphasis was placed on cultural and humanitarian ties, with the diplomats outlining joint events scheduled for the near future.
Following the negotiations, the heads of the diplomatic services signed the Program of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan for 2027–2028. /// nCa, 20 August 2026
