On 23 February 2026, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Zimbabwe announced their intention to elevate bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level, as evidenced by meetings marking the start of an active political and economic dialogue between the two nations.
Ministerial Level Meeting
The key event of the day was the negotiations between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Albert Ranganai Chimbindi.
The parties emphasized the progressive nature of the development of relations and reaffirmed their readiness for close coordination within international structures, primarily the UN. Particular attention was paid to mutual support for global initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and sustainable development.
The diplomats also exchanged views on the prospects for developing trade and economic cooperation, including the organization of joint business events. Issues regarding the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties were also considered.
Following the meeting, both sides confirmed their commitment to further strengthening friendly and mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Inter-MFA Consultations and New Vectors of Cooperation
On the same day, political consultations were held under the chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Serdar Mukhammetdurdyev, and the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of Zimbabwe, Albert Ranganai Chimbindi.
The parties called for the intensification of high-level contacts and the strengthening of inter-parliamentary ties.
In the economic sphere, the sides reviewed opportunities for establishing a trade and economic partnership. Energy, agriculture, and the textile industry were identified as priority sectors for cooperation. In this regard, the importance of establishing contacts between the business communities of the two countries, organizing joint business forums, and participating in exhibition and fair events was noted.
During the meeting, the parties expressed interest in expanding ties in the fields of education, sports, and tourism, as well as holding mutual cultural days.
