The construction of a mineral fertilizer production complex is underway in Turkmenabat, in eastern Turkmenistan. The facility will annually produce 350,000 tons of single superphosphate and 100,000 tons of ammonium sulphate. The contract value is US$682 million.
The progress of the project at the plenary session of the international CIET conference in Ashgabat was presented by Jeon-ki Bae, Senior Vice President of the South Korean company Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd., who serves as the Project Manager.
The client is the State Concern “Turkmenhimiya,” and Daewoo E&C is the sole main contractor responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction through a turnkey EPC contract. The project is fully financed by the Owner.
Construction started in September 2025 and will run until October 2028.
The new complex will be located inside the premises of the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant named after S. A. Niyazov, about 500 kilometers from Ashgabat and only about 30 minutes away by car from the Turkmenabat airport. Beyond the main production plants, the project provides for the creation of infrastructure, utility plants, wastewater treatment facilities, warehouses, as well as bagging and truck loading houses.
The project provides for the production of two types of fertilizers that complement each other in their agrochemical purpose. Single Super Phosphate (SSP) will supply crops with phosphorus, calcium, and sulfur, supporting root development, flowering, and fruiting. Ammonium sulphate (AS) will serve as a source of nitrogen and sulfur necessary for leaf and stem growth.
According to Jeon-ki Bae, during the design special attention was paid to the organization of production flows: the movement of raw materials, technological processing, storage, and shipping will flow smoothly in one direction. A separate task is carrying out construction work alongside an existing operating chemical plant.
The future complex will combine production buildings, warehouses, and utility areas.
Upon reaching design capacity, the enterprise will be able to annually produce a total of 450,000 tons of mineral fertilizers, expanding the production capabilities of Turkmenistan’s chemical industry and providing agriculture with in-demand products. ///nCa, 3 November 2026
