Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with Secretary-General of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the 111th meeting of the CIS Economic Council, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the talks, the sides exchanged views on topical issues on the CIS agenda. Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of the priorities of Turkmenistan’s chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2026, as well as preparations for upcoming top- and high-level events.
Special consideration was given to the preparations for the meetings of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, scheduled to take place on 7 and 9 October 2026 in the Awaza National Tourist Zone. In this regard, the parties discussed organizational aspects of the upcoming high-level events and the substance of their agendas.
The parties also discussed the further improvement of interaction mechanisms within the Commonwealth, focusing on expanding practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
At the conclusion of the meeting, mutual interest was reaffirmed in continuing constructive interaction and joint work aimed at further strengthening multilateral cooperation within the CIS. ///nCa, 10 September 2026
