The Parliament of Turkmenistan has adopted a resolution declaring 2026 the year of “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Winged Steeds”.
The text of the resolution was read out by the Speaker of the parliament, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, at an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on 26 December. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the presented symbol and motto.
The motto “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Winged Steeds” emphasizes national pride in Akhal-Teke horses — a symbol of strength, grace, and speed, depicted on the country’s State Emblem.
The choice of the motto is timed to two significant dates: 2026 according to the Eastern calendar is the Year of the Horse. In addition, Turkmenistan will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its independence in the coming year.
Akhal-Teke horses, known as “heavenly” or “winged” steeds, hold a special place in the history and culture of the Turkmen people. They have accompanied the nation for centuries and are considered an invaluable national treasure.
The tradition of assigning mottos to years has long existed in Turkmenistan and reflects the country’s key events and values. For example, 2025 has been declared the “International Year of Peace and Trust” in connection with the 30th anniversary of permanent neutrality.//nCa, 27 December 2025
