On October 1, 2026, a consultation meeting was held at the Natural Gas Research Institute in Ashgabat to review international standards and regulations for reducing methane emissions.
The meeting was organized with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan within the framework of the project “European Union for Green Development of Turkmenistan: Political Dialogue and Climate Action for 2024–2029,” co-financed by the European Union, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany and implemented by GIZ.
Representatives of the Mejlis, relevant ministries and departments of Turkmenistan took part in the meeting.
The meeting aims to further develop recommendations for improving the country’s regulatory framework, taking into account national development priorities in this area. Legal and technical specialists from the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, and the state concerns Turkmengaz and Turkmennebit participated in the meeting.
The consultation meeting discussed the application of an analytical approach to reviewing Turkmenistan’s regulatory framework for its further development in line with recognised modern international practices (including the EU Regulation on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector).
The meeting helped lay a clear methodological foundation for adapting best global practices to the national conditions of Turkmenistan. /// nCa, 2 October 2026 (in cooperation with MFA Turkmenistan)
