A bilateral meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan and the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Natig Shirinov, was held at the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan on 7 July 2026. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.
The talks took place within the framework of a visit to Turkmenistan by a representative Azerbaijani delegation to participate in the 9th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani Commission on Economic Cooperation.
During the meeting, the parties noted that cooperation between the customs authorities of the two countries has reached a new level following the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to Azerbaijan. The signed documents on the exchange of preliminary information and customs statistics became practical results of this intensified interaction.
The participants of the negotiations paid special attention to the digital transformation of customs administration. Within the framework of implementing the “Smart Customs” concept, the prospects for preparing a joint Road Map were discussed, which envisages the synchronization of the two countries’ digital systems, the introduction of automated risk analysis mechanisms, and the further development of the “Single Window” system.
The integration into the international e-TIR system, which is designed to accelerate the clearance of international freight transport, was a separate topic of the meeting. The implementation of the relevant mechanisms is expected to contribute to increasing the efficiency of transit transportation, including through the ports of Turkmenbashi and Baku.
Following the talks, representatives of the customs services of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening cooperation, developing digital solutions in the customs sector, and expanding the region’s transit potential.///nCa, 7 July 2026
