Within the framework of the “White City Ashgabat” conference, Bitdeer Technologies Group, a leading global technology company headquartered in Singapore, announced its plans to potentially establish its first state-of-the-art data center in Turkmenistan.
The announcement followed a landmark development yesterday, when a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was officially signed between the key ministries of Turkmenistan—including the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Communications, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy—and Bitdeer Technologies Group. This strategic agreement marks a pivotal step toward integrating high-performance computing capabilities and advanced digital infrastructure into Turkmenistan’s rapidly growing urban ecosystem.
Speaking at the conference, Housame Naimi, Bitdeer’s Director of Partnership and Business Development for the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, emphasized that this project directly aligns with the developmental priorities outlined by the leadership of the country.
Today data centers are interacting on the whole ecosystem of the cities and the countries overall, because they’re touching not only the electrical infrastructure, but also the financial services, government services, and other related technological services across the board.
“The data centers in the cities are able to provide blockchain technologies, AI technologies that are becoming more and more important, whether it is in terms of sovereignty of the state, because as you know, some of the data that is hosted abroad with the regional and the global environment, it’s more and more important to have those data locally at the national level, but also it helps to transfer technology”, he explained.
He explained that rather than placing additional strain on the country’s national grid, the project aims to help develop new electrical infrastructure and offer innovative pathways to monetize and export excess or stranded energy, denominating these returns in foreign currency, such as U.S. dollars.
The initiative also promises significant socio-economic benefits, focusing heavily on technology and knowledge transfer. Bitdeer intends to employ a local workforce, providing Turkmen employees with hands-on expertise and the technical know-how required to operate cutting-edge, world-class computing facilities.
Praising the professional execution of the “White City Ashgabat” conference, Bitdeer representative highlighted the motivation and willingness of government officials, ministries to work with the private sector in order to promote the country as a destination of investment, and also to provide all necessary tools and infrastructure to have the necessary projects in the country. ///nCa, 25 May 2026
