On 13 April 2026, the International Trade Centre (ITC) held a seminar in Ashgabat for representatives of Turkmenistan’s private sector as part of the European Union-funded project “Turkmenistan: Enhancing trade resilience and Integration.” The event was attended by 29 representatives of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the textile and garment manufacturing sectors. During the seminar, participants discussed issues aimed at improving the export readiness of local entrepreneurs and companies, as well as expanding their opportunities to enter the European Union market.
As interest in international markets grows among Turkmen companies, understanding buyer requirements, quality standards, and modern market trends is becoming a key factor for competitiveness. During the sessions, participants were introduced to current trends in the EU textile and clothing market, sustainable production issues within the context of the “European Green Deal,” certification requirements, and the expectations of European buyers.
Special attention was given to practical business development tools. Participants studied approaches to forming seasonal collections based on Spring-Summer 2027 trends, assortment planning, product category management, and adapting designs to meet the demands of target markets. Separate sessions were devoted to visual merchandising, brand positioning, and creating a compelling brand story for an international audience.
The seminar program also included recommendations on effective preparation for international trade fairs, such as “Who’s Next” in Paris, where it is vital for companies not only to present their products but also to establish direct contacts with potential buyers and partners. In the final practical session, private sector representatives received targeted advice on preparing for exhibition participation, strengthening market positioning, and further developing export capabilities.
The knowledge and recommendations gained will help enterprises refine their collections, strengthen their brands, and prepare for collaboration with foreign partners. The event marks another step in supporting Turkmen SMEs in the private sector on their journey toward creating higher value-added products and mastering new export destinations.
