A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by Minister of Culture Atageldi Shamyradov, is actively engaged in the 42nd session of UNESCO’s General Conference, as reported by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in France.
On the first day of the conference’s plenary session, the head of the Turkmen delegation delivered a speech. In his address, Minister Shamyradov welcomed Mrs. Simona-Mirela Miculescu, Ambassador of Romania, the newly elected President of the 42nd session of the General Conference and expressed his gratitude to UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay for her dedicated service.
He emphasized the significant milestone of Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary as a member of UNESCO and announced upcoming solemn events planned for next year to commemorate this occasion.
Minister Shamyradov expressed his hope that the current UNESCO General Conference would consider including the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the prominent Turkmen poet Magtymguly in the anniversaries calendar for 2024-2025.
He extended invitations to Audrey Azoulay and other participants to join the celebrations in Turkmenistan next year, expressing his appreciation for the collaboration with UNESCO and the participation in its various programs.
Shamyradov highlighted that Ashgabat, as a city renowned for design, has been rightfully recognized as part of UNESCO’s Global Network of Creative Cities.
He underscored the paramount importance of preserving Turkmenistan’s rich historical and cultural heritage and told about the inclusion of Magtymguly’s manuscripts in UNESCO’s International Register of the Memory of the World program.
In conclusion, he reaffirmed Turkmenistan’s unwavering commitment to fostering continued and fruitful cooperation with UNESCO.
Minister of Culture met with UNESCO Deputy Director General
On the sidelines of the conference, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Culture Atageldi Shamyradov had a meeting with UNESCO Deputy Director-General Ernesto Ramirez.
Minister Shamyradov expressed his sincere gratitude for the effective collaboration and acknowledged the notable achievements achieved through joint efforts between Turkmenistan and UNESCO. He noted that this year marks Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of UNESCO membership, which will serve as a platform for celebrating and commemorating this significant milestone through a series of events.
During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on Turkmenistan’s commendable strides in accession to twelve UNESCO conventions and the recognition of Ashgabat as a UNESCO Creative City in the design category.
