On Monday, 24 August 2026, newly appointed Ambassador of Germany to Turkmenistan Petra Dachtler presented her credentials to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, reports the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH).
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Dachtler conveyed greetings to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the National Leader of the Turkmen people from German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
In response, President Berdimuhamedov extended his greetings to the German leadership and stressed that Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to strengthening relations with European Union countries. In this context, he described Germany as one of Turkmenistan’s leading partners.
Turkmenistan is steadily expanding cooperation with Germany on the principles of mutual respect, trust, equality and consideration of the interests of both sides.
The two countries also actively cooperate within international organizations, primarily the United Nations, supporting each other’s initiatives.
Turkmenistan and Germany work together to promote international peace and security, sustainable development, environmental protection, climate action, the rational use of natural resources and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Ashgabat also attaches particular importance to the Central Asia–Germany format, which is viewed as an important mechanism for discussing regional development, strengthening economic ties, improving transport connectivity and advancing joint initiatives.
In the context of efforts to intensify trade and economic relations, the sides highlighted the role of the Turkmen-German Working Group on Trade and Economic Cooperation as a key instrument for deepening economic ties, as well as the activities of the German Eastern Business Association.
A notable example of constructive, long-standing partnership is cooperation between Turkmenistan and Germany in healthcare. Turkmen medical professionals maintain regular contacts with German experts to exchange experience, enhance professional skills and learn from European best medical practices.
Priority areas of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere include education, particularly professional and human-resource training.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Ambassador Petra Dachtler assured the head of state that she would make every effort to further strengthen the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries and promote German-Turkmen cooperation across all areas. ///nCa, 25 August 2026
