From 10 to 19 August 2026, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Turkmenistan, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan (MoHMI), organized a series of trainings aimed at building the capacity of national specialists and improving the quality of histological examinations as part of the national screening and early detection program for cervical dysplasia.
The events, held at the International Education and Science Center of the MoHMI and the Central Bureau of Pathologic Anatomy, brought together leading specialists—pathologists, cytologists, and pathomorphologists from medical facilities in Ashgabat and all velayats across the country. The training was facilitated by UNFPA international expert, Professor Radhika Srinivasan.
During the sessions, participants studied modern international standards and methods for morphological evaluation of specimens, as well as deepened their skills in histological diagnostics required for the national screening program. In practical hands-on sessions, specialists thoroughly analyzed complex clinical cases and discussed approaches to enhancing the accuracy of laboratory diagnostics.
Professor Radhika Srinivasan (India) is an expert in gynecological pathology and cervical cancer screening with over 30 years of professional experience. She holds a Ph.D. in Cancer Research from the Imperial College School of Medicine, University of London, and worked for over 35 years in various academic and diagnostic roles—including 18 years as a Professor—at the Department of Cytology and Gynecologic Pathology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh, India. ///nCa, 19 August 2026 (in cooperation with UNFPA Turkmenistan)
